When looking for alternative ways to improve your health, have you ever considered spices that are actually good for you? Many spices have positive health benefits (and cinnamon sugar sprinkled on that extra large cinnamon roll isn’t what I’m talking about!) Spices can be used to maintain health and prevent illness, enhance your immune system and more!

Cayenne Pepper – This is known as a spice with a zing to it. Many hot, spicy dishes contain cayenne pepper, so some with tame tastebuds may shy away. But actually, you should embrace it and use it more often. It’s known to relieve joint paint, as well as help digestion and increase your fat burning metabolism by as much as 25%.

Ginger – Ginger is well known for its ability to help with nausea. It calms the stomach and can help acid reflux. It’s also good for helping women during morning sickness and for dreaded motion sickness.

Cinnamon – Cinnamon is an excellent aid for diarrhea and upset stomachs. It can also give a boost your metabolism. Sprinkle it on your oatmeal to help rev up your body’s calorie-burning furnace for the day.

Garlic – Garlic can help keep cholesterol levels in check and decrease blood pressure. It’s also been shown to be helpful to those who suffer diabetes. However, if you’re on blood thinners, ask your doctor before adding this supplement to your diet.

Allspice – Allspice is a stimulant that can help relieve problems with indigestion and gas. It’s also an excellent addition to your diet to maintain healthy blood pressure and blood count.

Mustard – This is an excellent spice for those who suffer from respiratory problems. Mustard plasters are a helpful aid in addressing chest congestion.

Peppermint – This tasty spice can soothe tension, and especially digestive disorders. Peppermint oil capsules are often taken to help soothe the symptoms of IBS. As an added benefit, a mug of peppermint tea can help with insomnia.

Turmeric – This is an antioxidant that defends against free radicals. It’s anti-inflammatory and has the ability to fight off certain types of cancer.
