Flowers are a favorite

If you’ve visited before, you’ll know flowers are a favorite topic of mine. I’ve shared my love for individual flowers as well as celebrating each season and seasonal blooms. And in this post the spotlight is on the pretty little Daffodil.

Springtime beauty

The sturdy stems and brave trumpet blooms of Daffodils are so welcome after the long winter freeze. One of the first bulbs to bloom, Daffodils are one of those early springtime pleasures. These cheerful, hardy flowers really are a reminder to be in the moment and enjoy what each season has to offer.

I love Daffodils

Daffodil is the common name for the Narcissus bulb. These bulbs are hardy in zones 3-8 and will grow in sun or partial shade. And if you’re looking for a flower that’s pest resistant, Daffodils are a good choice. Unlike tulips, deer, squirrels, and gophers will leave Daffodils alone. While some varieties emerge as early as January in the northern hemisphere, peak bloom time is usually mid-March to mid-April, and as late as May. The blooms can be deadheaded, but, as with most bulbs, next year’s blooms feed on this year’s leaves. You’ll want to wait to cut them back until the leaves have turned yellow.
