Springtime is a gift

This time of year I’m aching for some greenery. I’m ready for blooming flowers and budding trees, want to feel the brisk springtime wind and smell the earth waking from its winter nap. But, not yet. In my region there’s a good 4-6 weeks of cold before the weather breaks. This is the toughest part of the year for me. I’m in a holding pattern as I wait out the winter season.

First Blooms

When I came across this beautiful watercolor crocus artwork, I felt that yearning for spring’s rebirth. So I thought it would be fun to create a new printable and celebrate these brave little flowers. Blooming in the midst of winter’s cold, the small, hardy crocus is a wonderful gift of early spring.

I love Crocus

The pretty Crocus Vernus, that early harbinger of spring, is not the same as the Colchicum autumnale, or Crocus Sativus, the flower responsible for saffron. Although they look somewhat similar, they’re not the same variety. And while Crocus comes in a whole range of colors, the most common are the purples. Let’s celebrate this early bloomer with a free printable!
