The Irises are blooming

Is it just me, or are the Bearded Irises especially showy this season? I’ll admit, I may be paying them a bit of extra attention this year, but even so, right now they are really showing off! Everywhere I look, I see gorgeous spears of Iris blooms. (Check out my Instagram reel!) And the colors! Beyond the rich purples, I’m seeing soft violets, bicolor purple and whites, rosy pinks, and yellows from golden to lemon.

New varieties

Irises are a springtime staple in my garden, but the reason I’m focused on them a bit more than usual is because last summer I transplanted a few different starts from my father-in-law’s garden. There was a special bit of urgency because his house was sold and what I got last year were the last transplants I’d have from his beautiful garden. I crossed my fingers as I planted and prayed they would survive. And although I didn’t expect many blossoms this spring, I was rewarded with beautiful purple and white bicolors, a lovely yellow and a gorgeous bicolor burgundy. So, so pretty! Truthfully though, I give all credit to my dad-in-law’s gardening mojo. I’m just grateful that I’ll have a bit of his garden with me in the years to come.
