Let’s go outside! The benefits of getting outdoors in the spring

Let’s go outside

Spring is here, so let’s get outside! While warmer days arrive later for some than others, experiencing nature broadens our horizons and builds good health, both mental and physical. The rewards of getting outdoors can be life-changing, and we owe it to ourselves to make the most of this special time. Read on to learn just a few of the ways you’ll benefit by getting outside during the spring season.

Let's go outside The benefits of being outdoors in the spring

Get some healthy sun

Go ahead, just sit outside and absorb some sunshine. Read a book. Meditate. Slow down for a few minutes, or even longer. Spending time in the sun creates healthy vitamins that improve your mood and build immunity. If you still feel like you’re being lazy, remind yourself that you’re enhancing your physical health as well as adding a sense of calm and peace to your day. Be good to yourself. The other stuff in your life can usually wait for a bit.

Get moving

Take a walk to shake out the tense muscles you’ve developed while hibernating this past winter. Swinging on a swing will let you feel like a kid again. Go to the park, go bicycling or fishing, or go out with a friend; it all works. As a bonus, fresh air improves your sleep. A change of real-world scenery rescues us from those online virtual environments we often spend so much time in.

Plant a garden

Springtime is the time to plant seeds that will bring results later. If you have a home garden, you can grow your favorite vegetables. If your space is limited, you can start some herbs in planters and move them to the porch when the weather warms up. You can even try an herb garden on your windowsill. Planting seeds can mean planting possibilities in your life. Enjoy the seed catalogs, pick your produce, teach the kids, and build self-reliance. Spring is the time for growth, and this can involve changes within as well.

Go Outside

Spring is a good time to get out and get moving. It might include a garden tour, a community class on local landmarks, or an impromptu visit on a friend’s porch. You might try a road trip or even a cruise. The goal is to get outside, connect with others, and enjoy new adventures. Living a life rich with a variety of outdoor experiences is worth the effort and helps us to be our best, at every age!
