Live a creative life! Monthly Motivation includes free printable

We’re all familiar with the creativity that results in works of art or beautiful music. However, some of the most life-changing technology we use today also came from a creative mind. Many of the most accomplished people have succeeded because they’ve used creative thinking to solve a problem or address a need.

Fortunately for those of us lacking Michelangelo-like abilities, creative thinking is like a muscle, and we get better by flexing it. So for this month’s motivation, let’s look at a few ways we can use creative thinking to help us meet many of life’s challenges.

Think differently

While we may not realize it, we often fail because we repeat the same mistake, or a similar one, over and over again. We set out to tackle a problem, then when things go wrong we get frustrated, and become convinced we’re doomed to failure. But if we stop to think about it, we fail because we’re usually taking the same approach.

If you’re stumped, try looking at the issue from another perspective. Though it’s natural to compare yourself to others in your field, it can help to look at those in other professions for inspiration. How did they solve their problem? What was the result? Although their answer may not apply directly to your situation, studying their steps to success can offer unique perspectives and tactics you may be able to apply to your own predicament.

Do it differently

Though you may have heard otherwise, there are very few things that can only be done one way. When we do something simple like opening a jar, we use the same process because it’s usually successful. However, when faced with an issue where others have failed, it might be a good idea to ignore general opinion.

There will be times where a new problem will require you to come up with a novel solution. When those around you are using the same tools and failing, that tool probably won’t work for you either. Try something different. It can be as simple as a single change or may include a complete overhaul, but don’t be afraid to try a different solution, especially if what you’ve been doing isn’t working. If you want something you’ve never had, you’ll need to do something you’ve never done. And if you’re going to fail, you’ll learn more if you fail differently.

Believe in yourself

You can have all the creative chops in the world, but if you’re too scared to act on your ideas, what good will it do you? The fear of standing out, or being criticized by others, has clipped the wings of many visionary ideas before they could even take flight.

It’s human nature to avoid things that are different, but the truth is, most people who’ve succeeded have done so by taking a different approach. Believe in yourself and your vision, and be brave enough to try something unique.

Live a Creative Life

Be open to new ideas and approach situations with curiosity. Frame your obstacles as challenges, and don’t be afraid to try an unconventional approach to solve a problem or fill a need. Remember that most successful people have failed at one time or another, so don’t let fear hold you back. Live a creative life! And for inspiration, I’ve made a pretty new printable!
