The beautiful Chrysanthemum is November’s Birth Flower

Blooming with Autumn’s golden glow, the beautiful Chrysanthemum is the birth flower for November. According to Almanac.com, Chrysanthemums symbolize youth, and giving a red mum means ‘I love you’, while a white mum conveys purity and innocence.

I’ve also used November’s golden Topaz birthstone as the color inspiration for this month’s printable.

History of Birth Flowers

Birth flowers have an interesting history. For instance, the earliest reference to the language of flowers is by the poet Christopher Smart. He first mentioned a language of flowers in Jubilate Agno, circa 1759-63. However, Mary Wortley, Lady Montagu, through her memoirs, introduced 18th century western culture to the concept of flowers assigned to each birth month.

Additionally, Victorians expressed feelings not considered proper to voice aloud by sharing ‘talking bouquets’.
