“We cannot cure the world of sorrows, but we can choose to live in joy.”

We can live in Joy

We hear the word ‘Joy’ a lot during the Holiday season: Joy to the World, Joyful and Triumphant, Peace and Joy. But, is joy real? And if so, is joy even attainable? I think the answer is yes, but joy doesn’t just happen. Joy is a choice and a practice. There is good to be found if you look for it, and no matter what our circumstances are at the moment, we can choose to live in joy, during the Holiday season and throughout the year. So, for this month’s motivation let’s talk about some ways we can create and bring joy into our daily life.

Be grateful every day

Practicing gratitude isn’t a part-time occupation. Some circumstances make it especially challenging, but by being grateful for both the good and the bad, we can create joy. When bad things do happen, we can reframe these challenges as opportunities to learn and grow. Our mistakes and failures can become steppingstones if we allow ourselves to view what happens with gratitude.

Do what you love

We create joy when we feel productive and useful, so find something fulfilling in your daily work. Even if some parts of your job seem boring, make your own joy by adding a positive attitude to what you do. Everyone is grateful for a kindness, so being kind and helpful to your coworkers and greeting everyone with a smile are good ways to create joy at work.

Laugh more

According to scientists, laughing relieves stress and boosts our mood. Laughing can help us find the funny and absurd in any situation. It helps us focus on our shared circumstances and offers support in troubled times. Laughing releases fear and anxiety and helps us make our own joy.

Stop worrying

Worry will never change anything. It only robs us of joy by keeping us from focusing on the present and the good things happening in our lives. We can choose to react to our circumstances or use our joy to learn from them. By replacing worry with joy, we take control of our mindset and emotions.

Share

One of the best ways to make our own joy is to help others. Sharing increases our compassion, kindness, and improves our self-esteem. Knowing that we helped someone else creates joy in our lives. No matter our circumstances, when we take the time to give of ourselves, we create joy.

Live in Joy

These tips are just a beginning, but remember, joy doesn’t just happen. Every challenge is an opportunity to create joy. And to help you remember, I’ve created a pretty printable. I hope it reminds you that you have the power to live in joy!
