Sharing Love with Christmas Traditions

Sharing Love with Christmas Traditions

What are your favorite Christmas traditions? We all have them and they may be more important than you think. Traditions like putting up the tree on the day after Thanksgiving, displaying that special ornament each year, or opening one gift on Christmas Eve are a special part of the holiday season. While we all share traditions, each family has unique twists. Maybe it’s making pizza on Christmas Eve or attending the Holiday parade. Maybe it’s a special breakfast on Christmas morning, or heading to the local Pancake House after Midnight Mass.

Whether your traditions are traditional or quirky, they are the glue that binds us together during the holidays. They give us a sense of belonging and help us mark important dates. Even more importantly, they help us make memories and express our love to our families. Chances are your favorite childhood memories of Christmas are tied to traditions, and help you to remember the meaningful events around them from one year to the next.

Christmas Traditions Are Important

Creating and participating in traditions gives us the opportunity to express our love with family and helps to strengthen and nurture relationships. Sharing events with our larger communities, like church service on Christmas Day, or attending the local holiday parade, are ways we interact and meet others. Participating in those traditions creates a sense of connectedness to our families and communities, and enhances our wellbeing.

Create Traditions to Express Your Love

Think about the traditions that bring meaning to your holiday season. Whatever the activity, nourish and pass them on to your children. If you don’t have a lot of traditions yet, there’s no better time than the present to start. And it doesn’t have to be just during the holiday season. Traditions can be shared throughout the year. Make s’mores during summer vacation, or make Thursday night pizza night, or play board games on the first Sunday of the month. Embrace traditions and see for yourself how they can enrich your life and your relationships.
